With many Asian rural communities and even the suburbs, it's not uncommon for cooking to only occur outside either under shelter or beneath the house. As many of the house and huts found in rural parts of Cambodia are made from wood and fibres and much of their cooking is done with open flames cooking indoors is not a good idea for obvious reasons. To make the villages feel authentic this was a big detail I wanted to be sure to add. Many cultures have strong traditions based around food and I think it's good practice to be as accurate as possible out of respect for others culture and traditions.
